If you are thinking about buying Fuse and playing it by yourself, don't. I'll save you that trouble right here. This is not a good single player game. Plenty of other great shooters out there for that, so you'd be best off looking elsewhere. However, if you are looking for a really fun shooter to play with three, two, or even one other friend, read on. Because Fuse will scratch that itch, and then some.Fuse is a sci fi-themed shooter featuring four characters who comprise a mercenary team known as Overstrike 9. Early in the mission, the team acquires weapons bound with Fuse, an alien substance that has allowed for the creation of these super-powerful prototype weapons. These four unique weapons, along with distinct superpowered Fuse abilities which are later gained by the members of Overstrike 9, form the basis of the otherwise standard third person shooter gameplay, and do well to distinguish Fuse from the rest of the crowded genre. The weapons are simply awesome. An automatic rifle that crystallizes chains of enemies for easy shattering, a black hole-producing pulse rifle, a crossbow that pins enemies to walls and liquefies them, and a portable energy shield that protects, strengthens allies' firepower, and absorbs and shoots back enemy rounds....the weapons carry on the proud tradition of insane weaponry that is characteristic of the developer, Insomniac Games. While the weapons themselves don't change throughout the 12 hour campaign, an upgrade system for each character does more than enough to keep things feeling fresh. One of the most enjoyable aspects of Fuse is the way the team's weapons can combine for various kills on the enemy. These combinations are VERY numerous, and are not only very fun to execute and watch, but also help you earn higher amounts of experience points for your individual upgrade trees. It encourages you to work with your team to kill creatively, which is always nice. Once the actual Fuse abilities unique to each Overstrike 9 agent become available, it opens up many more tactical opportunities as well. This flexibility always keeps Fuse from ever feeling monotonous. Most importantly, all these great features I just described are ones that you really can't get playing single player. This further enhances the need to experience Fuse with other players, which is clearly how the game was designed to be played. From a technical perspective, the game is quite competent, if unspectacular. The game looks and sounds good, controls are tight, and the framerate is consistent and smooth. One thing I didn't like was the limited stealth opportunities, which are triggered automatically (a "stealth mode" or "crouch" command has been mysteriously left out of the game) and feel forced into the game without being fully developed. The game does generally follow the "move to area, clear out enemies, take corridor to next area" formula for much of it, but good level design and some enjoyable platforming sections do very well to shake things up. The addition of hidden goodies such as enemy intel, XP bonuses, and fuse credits (which unlock perks that can be shared across all team members) will encourage you take your time and explore thoroughly. The story is standard fare and not very memorable, but is aided by some hilarious dialogue that really caught me by surprise. Lastly, a nice variety of kill animations round up a very satisfying melee mechanic that makes close quarter combat quite satisfying. The game also contains a separate mode known as Echelon, where you will fight waves of enemies ala Horde mode from the Gears of War series. While this mode does allow you to gain fuse credits, it still feels somewhat uninspired and wasn't really enough to keep my attention. All in all, Fuse delivers a very fun, substantial story campaign that is a blast to play with others. It's one of those games that will make you yell and laugh out loud with your teammates due to the absolutely ridiculous things that you can pull off with your weapons and abilities. Single players may be disappointed, but Fuse will delight friends who enjoy playing together, and those to do will find plenty to enjoy here.I recently picked up this game and while I admit some of the reviews made me wonder if I wasn't making a mistake, I figured it was so cheap I wasn't risking much. Simply put, the game is fun, though short. Its very fast-paced and while the plot is muddled to say the least, it didn't really matter much. The graphics are good and the control system is easy to pick up. The voice acting is done well since they have some of the top voice talent on board. There are plenty of reviews for the co-op play so I'll skip over that except to acknowledge that it is fun. Many of the reviews lead you to believe that the single player campaign is worthless but that is simply not the case. True, some of the enemies are bullet sponges but nothing that was impossible. The AI is decent and for the most part, they take out plenty of enemies on their own and I never felt like I had to babysit them. In fact, the AI revive system is extremely effective. You can also switch characters at any point, which is nice so you can try other characters or if you need use of a special weapon/skill for a particular section though honestly its not a requirement. There were only two times I can recall that the AI was an actual problem - early in the game there was a part where the team was to get on an elevator and I couldn't proceed because one team member was stuck behind a box just running in place, which was easily rectified by switching that character to get her moving again. The other time a character dropped down into a huge group of enemies and got killed immediately which restarts the mission. When the mission restarted, he stayed where he needed so again, problem solved. If you are looking for a deep, philosophical game then look elsewhere. If you expect an RPG type game, this definitely isn't it - you won't spend hours wandering around exploring because the game is very linear and there is no customization of your character other than leveling up the skill tree. If however, you are looking for the kind of game where you can drop in, play a bit and blow things up and just have fun, then by all means, give it a try.I really enjoy this game and played it multiple times and lost count. Some challenge are hard but still enjoyable.A must have if you like shooting gamesMany customizations with experience earned during game playNew, factory sealed, arrived before estimated delivery date.My son and I enjoyed playing this.Great game...excellent online private group game play
