24 Hour ImpressionI am normally not inclined to write reviews but given how impressed I am with Mud Runner I need to spread the gospel. If you like to "wheel" this game is for you. Mud, rocks, sand, good physics, good graphics, cool but accurate vehicles...check. And as someone who has spent some time in rural Russia, I see many similarities. The developers must have spent a lot of time working on the different physics models for each vehicle and how different "add ons" to those vehicles affect vehicle performance. So far, I've completed all of the challenges with at least 2 or more stars and completed 3 maps in the single player format. While I was waiting for Mud Runner to arrive I noticed that some reviews commented on how the steering is slow to respond. I certainly understand how this is very different from almost every driving game out there and we have to keep in mind that these heavy vehicles are either hydraulically assisted steering or hydraulic steer only. They simply aren't designed to turn quickly. Turning wheels that are 35"-50" diameter with locked differentials takes a lot of force and steering isn't quick. It would take away from the realism if the wheels turned like a sports car on Need for Speed. Some of you likely know why the steering is slow but for those less experienced in this type of machinery, now you know. Also, I want to comment on how much I like the water dynamics in the gameplay. Streams will sweep you away! If you think that heavy fuel trailer will keep you chugging along in a straight line, think again when crossing swift currents. Think that winch will save your bacon anytime you get in a pinch...NOPE. The winch has limits as in real life both in pulling power and length. Want to hook up your truck loaded down with long logs to that dead tree? HA! No way. Find another spot or go through the pain of bringing in another heavy weight to help tow/winch you out.I haven't tried to use my wheel and pedal setup but I am curious to see how that works and the force feedback as you churn through swamps or hip deep mud.My wish list:1. Keep expanding maps and adding new challenges; what about a Soviet era mobile ICBM RT-2pm TOPOL challenge where you need to traverse some nasty backcountry and setup the missile to launch? What about operating a convoy across the Lena Highway or other famously nasty routes?2. I really like the "winch" features you incorporated into the gameplay. If possible, think about adding a snatch block for increased pulling power with a possible penalty of added time it takes to setup. I would also like to see the ability to use the front winch when you already have another vehicle in tow using "drive" for the rear winch. That may be difficult on consoles but likely not impossible.3. Added weather effects...for instance, what about increased water flow during rain or even an occasional flash flood. This would open up new dynamics to the game.Lastly, hats off to the programmers and developers. You did a great job and I hope you continue to improve and expand this product. This is a definite KEEPER in my library of games. For those of you that are on the fence, I recommend you give this game a shot. It's well worth the release price of $39.99.
