Great Game. The graphics and sound are outstanding. There is such detail in the graphics it is so awesome. The battlefields are varied and terrifically sci-fi looking. This is what a sci-fi monster battling game should be! Guns are really neat. Each of the Hunters is unique with special guns and abilities. The monsters look awesome and are truly terrifying!I play solo mode, and the bots usually do a pretty decent job. The monster usually wipes my group but that is ok. Nice challenge! There are level ups and unlocks galore. There is a campaign called Evacuation. You have to battle 5 monsters in a row. Results from the earlier battles carry over. Also, each Hunter has a set of level ups so each match earns experience points in their key areas, even if you lose you get points. This game is frantic and fast paced. I am not the best shooter player but I find this game fun. I love games with great replay ability and Evolve definitely qualifies! Anyone who loves a good sci-fi shooter should try this game.I am not very good with the monster yet. I have only played the one tutorial. Can't lose the tutorials I think. Each monster has their own abilities and movements. They are totally fun to fight against!I bough the 4th monster DLC. I actually beat him! I think I may have beaten the monster twice and won another match which was Defend for a total of three victories and at least 20 defeats. I really like this game. The skin DLC is not very useful since you can only put the skins on your character. For the Hunters, it changes your weapon skin in your hand, kind of useful since the default skins are ugly. And, you can't put skins on the Monsters to fight against, only if you are controlling them.I played the game before the huge 8gb patch downloaded. Do Not Do That! The patch installed but I was only able to play the tutorials and had to reinstall the whole thing. The first time the patch downloaded took 1.5 hours, and the second time was only 30 minutes.Oh, there is DLC for adding a 4th Hunter of each type. Make certain you watch their tutorial videos before getting that DLC. I may get it in the future but right now those Hunters look complicated to use to me.Again, I play solo, and yes, it is hunt the Monster again and again. However, there is always action in the game. The planet has other HOSTILE life on it and there is never a dull moment. Some of these other Beasts can one shot you so be careful as you chase the Monster. Great fun!I kind of thought the Monsters could be a little larger when they get to phase 3. I guess it is ok, they are terrifying enough. Any larger and they would be easier targets. I do not aim well so I like fighting Monsters that do not fly around so much, but they move FAST! oh, and they hit HARD!I cannot understand why this game has such poor ratings. What do players want, anyway? This game is 100% action, no down time. Fast paced and downright scary at times.NONE of the DLC is mandatory. There are a total of 12 Hunters, 8 to unlock. The DLC adds 4 more. There are a total of three Monsters, 2 to unlock if you want to play as them, but you can fight against any of them before unlocking as a playable monster. The Fourth Monster is DLC and is highly recommended! None of the DLC is mandatory to be honest.Evolve is a great game, with a lot of cool features and lots of fun. It looks and plays great!EDIT: I have won more matches but the win-loss is about 1 in 5. Awesome! I >finally< beat every monster! Oh, and the season pass is fine. Slim the Trapper can slow the monster down nicely. The other Hunters are ok, as well. Did I mention I won Evacuation? Wow! Evolve is fun.EDIT 2: I am winning more often now. I have unlocked all of the Hunters in Solo mode. Played the Monster finally. I am not very good at it! Hunter bots keel me easily. Takes some getting used to. The Medic and the Support are the easiest to play in solo mode. After leveling up a bit, better perks become available. I am now level 20+! I still do not play online since I am not a multiplayer player. I REALLY like this game! Graphics and sound are VERY nice. Great sci-fi action game.Final Edit: Unlocked all of the Monsters as well. They are different to play compared to the Hunters. The Hunters are very fast paced, always moving regularly. The Monsters have special moves and recharging abilities so taking things much slower is in order. At first I thought the Monsters were hard to play, clunky even, but once I settled down and played slower things shaped up. Also, I have been winning more now.Evolve is a great game!Let's set the DLC obsession aside until the end of my review. I'd like to talk about Evolve's gameplay. I have a bit of a... Problem with FPS games. I am overly competitive in BF and CoD. I am more concerned with my K/D ratio than I should be. Oftentimes, making memories when playing with my friends gets interrupted by my statistical worries. Along comes Evolve, a game that throws all those out the window in the name of absolute teamwork, giant Monsters and mixing what seem like MOBA elements with FPS's.Between the Alpha, Beta and the full game I have spent numerous hours with Evolve. Many of those with strangers, and another handful with friends who picked up the game. It is hard to describe how thrilling it is to be tracking a monster one minute and literally feeling its footsteps in the controller, to all of a sudden being engulfed in flames with a massive angry, almost-dead Goliath on top of you and barely taking a loss because the monster caught your team out of position. But wait. Your Support cloaks, pulls a ridiculous revive on you and the two of you take down the beast just before it destroys the power relay and takes the game.Evolve is full of these epic moments, and I can't get enough of the game. All it takes is a little bit smarter Monster player, or a slightly worse Medic that make each game unique, similar to why so many return to play game after game on Dust yet again on CS:GO.12 maps. 12 hunters. 3 monsters. So many possibilities each game. Are there more of these? Yes, once they are finished we can buy more hunters and monsters, not unlike map packs in COD. Not unlike Dead Space's weapon packs. But unlike most, every new map and game mode is free. For everyone. Also, even if you don't buy the 5th monster, you can still play against it (or alongside a new Hunter even if you don't buy it). The developer wants no one to be excluded.Speaking of game modes, Evacuation is insane. 5 games across different modes, with the final round being a League of Legends-style Defend but in FPS perspective. Whoever wins each round leading up to the final one gets to choose a perk that alters the next round in their favor.I could see how some think the game gets boring. If you don't play Evacuation, your games will largely start out as spending a good few minutes to either chase or run before the big battles take place. But I can't shake the suspense of the chase and the thrill of each monster encounter. It's like watching Pacific Rim on steroids. If watching a few games on Twitch still leaves you on the fence, you probably should rent the game first.Did I mention the audio is some of the best I've heard in gaming? If you have a subwoofer, you will feel like you are in a Godzilla movie as a Hunter. Either way, your neighbors will wonder what you unleashed in your home, and you'll be glad you invested in a nice headset or surround sound system. The bottom line is, DLC or not, try out the game and see if you have fun. It always confuses me to see people on the Destiny forums who constantly complain about the game yet admit they have put 300+ hours into it and counting. I won't be buying any DLC, but I can sure bet that I'll be putting in another 10-20 hours into the game within the next couple weeks because the content in Evolve is a blast.Let's not forget that as good as Borderlands 2 was, it had $80 worth of DLC not counting the Headhunter packs. Let's not forget that with every new fun and popular Battlefield game comes an additional $50 required for Premium. Let's not forget a DLC strategy is a publisher decision and not a developer one. Let's not forget that without a certain amount of DLC, Evolve's maps and modes would not be free for all of us.I hope you give Evolve a shot. Whether you rent it, buy it, Share Play it, whatever. I just hope you get the chance to play it and have as much fun as my friends and I do.EDIT:After having the game for about a year now, I have to admit I am docking a star off the review. I stopped playing after 30+ hours due to a lack of longevity. The game had plenty of maps, and I found the Hunter selection pre-DLC to be sufficient. However, the community dropped off after a few months, and the longer the game went on matchmaking became a greater and greater issue. Kicking friends out of parties, taking long amounts of time to find matches, etc.It was fun while it lasted.
