An okay game. If you know the game "Until Dawn", it's not as good a game as that. That one had a better story and better characters. It felt like there was more consequence to your choices as well. And it could actually be scary or tense unlike this game.THIS game would be a lot better played with a group, I think. It would make tolerating the mostly unlikable characters and moments easier. Good for maybe two playthroughs and movie mode is cool for a couple times as well. There aren't really as many endings as advertised. Not really. But the "canon" ending as I see it, where the minimum amount of people die, and then the various other endings with different deaths and survivals are interesting to explore.I think the story is fine. It works well enough. Characters are fine, but the dialogue could make anyone actively try to kill the characters to make it stop. Only a few characters get a lot of screen time and the others disappear from the story or have no real effect on anything. Characters act contrary to the situation. Ex: You've just seen someone you know brutally die and are in danger, let's chat about who might like who romantically. Like WTF?Music is intrusive much of the time and there's just too much of it in the game. Someone narrowly escapes death- Throw on a song which may or may not fit the mood. Someone is walking along in the woods- Throw on a song which may or may not fit the mood, etc. Too many songs! The alternative music is better than the original in my opinion. Still too many songs but it fits the atmosphere better. I advise turning that on to play in the settings. On the technical side, plenty of glitches. Ex: Hair bounces, textures popping, obvious load screens which take you out of the fact it's meant to act like an interactive movie but it's not at all. Repeating dialogue because of syncing issue with the audio after loading pretty much every time the game loads which is frequent. When characters move faster the models look funny/fake, again, affecting the supposed realism attempt the game is going for with keeping the actors' faces.I like the subtitle options and gameplay options to make play easier if that's something you need. Not sure what was up with the cartoon tutorials using a Rod Serling sound-alike. This is nothing like The Twilight Zone. Also, the tutorials were unnecessary and intrusive. This game is not scary in the slightest. Lame.I did not play online multiplayer and probably won't. From what I understand, everyone you play with has to own a copy of the game and they don't get to play, but only vote on choices. Not great. Couch co-op put in the game when people were already doing that on their own with "Until Dawn" is a nice addition.Aiming in the game is more difficult than it should be. I advise turning on auto-aim where it'll aim at the target for you if you are having trouble. Auto-complete is useful for moving target moments. It sucks to lose a character because of a weird way of having the shooting work. Camera angles can be irritating and can turn you around since they're fixed and sometimes awkward.I don't regret the purchase. It is enough fun to make use of the game and to share with others. The technical problems annoy me but don't break the game, although it did crash on me one time. Another time my save file corrupted and I was almost done with the game! Frequent saving didn't help me then. That there is no true chapter select, because once you select a chapter you must complete the game to gain access to chapter select again, is awful. Select the wrong chapter? Well, you're screwed. Trophy hunters will have to be dedicated to put up with repeating the game again and again. It's really not a good enough game to play over and over. Some characters are so terrible. One is the typical b*tch who never has any growth- That's okay. One appears cool and capable but she's just too good and smart and actually quite mean- Not so okay but okay. One can't seem to open his mouth to speak clearly and doesn't appear to act much nor emote much with his lines. But he's sexy brooding according to the characters and everyone wants him. Ha sure, sure. The worst of them is meant to be a "strong female protagonist" but she is mean, self-centered, not very bright as she makes bad choices and does wrong..yet we're supposed to be on her side all the time... This character takes over the game at about the halfway point and is so awesome, okay? *sigh* She sucks.Characters unreasonably not communicating at times or believing others at times..fine. Your choices making no sense sometimes or a character saying something you didn't intend by a choice or it not fitting the situation..not fine. It's odd. Ex: A character suggests to another character they probably want to shoot them right now. WHAT. Why would I do that? What is happening? Another character expresses the same reaction to it as I was having. Utter confusion and opposition to the idea. Odd.I've gone on and on. Bottom line: You want a new game with only a little game play to see a story and characters play out? This is good for that. It's enough fun I enjoyed most of my time with it. I can deal with the annoyances. Can you? Hope this helps!Seeing a lot of reviews praise the game for this. And I just flat disagree.Don’t get me wrong. I think the game is great. But I just feel too much was similar. Even the monster of the game looks way too close to the design of the Wendigos.I also had an issue where the B plot was much more compelling than the A plot. And I kind of kept going because I knew we’d get back to B plot eventually. A plot was fixed basically when B plot joined up. And B plot was gone for a LONG time. I feel it took too much time for “build up” when they could of had a much more compelling story. That being said. It’s a pretty game. All their games are. It works great. I never have to question if this company is going to put out something that works. From a characterization stand point The Quarry has stronger characters than Until Dawn’s cookie cutter teenage jerks. You feel genuine empathy for these characters unlike the Until Dawn crew. Though if you wanted to relive those lovely interactions you’re given the choice to be a jerk to your camp mates. Complaints about the plot aside, my previous experience with their other games could be swaying my opinion here. But I think The Quarry does have a stronger plot and more agency. You do less, sure, but the story beats gell together better without seeming forced. Also the small animations for the tutorial, that you can optionally skip if you wanted. Super fun. I loved them. Now of we could get a fast forward scene option finally that would be just cherry. The game was delivered right away and came safely secure in the package, as for the game itself 10/10. It does not miss. I played in the span of two nights and can't wait to replay to see what the other options take me.I am not super knowledgeable about games and I can't provide any specific critiques but as a full novice player, this storytelling game is perfect. Great actors, visuals, and thrilling story. Prior to this I had played Until Dawn and that one has my 5-star approval but The Quarry is right there next to it.Reminded me a lot of the game Until Dawn. And it is. Has a pretty good story, besides from being slow paced from time-to-time. Once you get into the thick of the story it goes pretty quick. A lot of options and outcomes to play through, and the mechanics of the game are rather simple and easy for players. Pretty good game 8/10.If you like Until Dawn you'll like this game. Having Ted Raimi and Lance Hendrickson is a great addition to an already great game.I liked how you kind of make up your own story as you play then after you beat it you can go back and replay parts I thought it was a great gameI loved Until Dawn and have played that multiple times. I was hoping this game would be at least almost as good, but even though it was kind of fun to play, I don’t think I’ll be playing it over and over again. The storyline just wasn’t that great. The characters weren’t that likable and the chemistry between the characters wasn’t that great. Graphics were not that good either.Much like Supermassive's predecessor, this is a great sophomore addition to the freshman hit that paved the way. Beautiful visuals, a killer eighties inspired musical score, and a different perspective on decision making and interacting with characters and items. The voice was superb, especially with the likes of David Arquette, Ariel Winter, Ted Raimi, Lance Henriksen, Lin Shaye, Ethan Suplee, Brenda Song, and Justice Smith to name a few. The only hiccup I noticed is the occasional glitch where some characters repeat their lines during load times. It's minor, and isn't much of an issue. I bought it for PS4, and hope it plays better once I upgrade to a PS5. Highly recommended horror fun!
